Abstract
  • 'The hidden imperative for Christian education: investigating the effectiveness of using values-clarification strategies for teaching inter-cultural respect, with specific reference to respect for the point of view of Native Americans by whites': this study tests whether white people can be taught to respect the Native American point of view by using values clarification methods. These methods were introduced into an existing anti-racism workshop. Hypotheses were tested (with control and test groups) which predicted that using values clarification methods would result in more positive statements; fewer hostile statements; and more positive attitudes toward Native Americans. All hypotheses comparing control and test groups were rejected. Supplemental analyses of pre- and post-tests, however, indicated statistically significant results which signaled increased respect for the Native American point of view.
