  • This project develops the argument that what a nation celebrates, and how it goes about that celebration, is crucial to the identity of the nation and the place that is given to minority people within the nation. Central to the project are a set of Bible studies which assist the Australian church to consider issues raised by Aboriginal people during Australia's bicentennial celebrations, viz land rights, racism, the impact of history on the present, covenant and treaty. The final chapter is a defense of the sociopolitical biblical hermeneutic developed through the project.
