- Using a methodology of guided discussions, known as 'cracker barreling', which were transcribed to provide the basis for a study guide on family farm issues, the purpose of this study was: 1) to identify through experiences with local farmers selected issues which affect the continuance of the family farmer in the United States; 2) to communicate the significance of these issues to designated groups within the United Methodist Church; and 3) to provide vocational and life issue ministry to the family farmers who are members of the congregations of Bowersville and Paintersville, Ohio, United Methodist churches. All three goals of the project were realized and, with modification, could be used in other contexts.
