- Abstract
- The author conducted a modest pastoral ethnographic study designed to understand the level of spiritual awareness of the members of a Presbyterian pastor nominating committee. As suspected, the study revealed an uneven, and sometimes absent, awareness of the spiritual nature of the PNC's work. The resulting project seeks to enhance the spiritual context of the pastor search task by providing suggestions for guiding search committees in a more spiritually-aware process. Topics addressed include: a theological foundation in the Reformed tradition, an exploration of discernment, and a summary of healthy leadership characteristics (based on the Healthy Congregations work of Peter Steinke).
