- Abstract
- This project proposes alternative meditations for the first week of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola to provide for maximum benefit for contemporary retreatants. The author researched the life of Ignatius, and the text of the Exercises to understand the origin and function of the meditations. She used a survey of exercitants to indicate the breadth of the problem. The author used faith stage development theory as a framework to bridge the Exercises from the 16th to the 21st century. She presents alternative meditations based on the questions that underlay Ignatius original experience of the Spiritual Exercises.
