Abstract
  • This project tested a model for integrating or assimilating new members into a church. A sponsorship model was tested where hosts from the church made regular contacts with newcomers over a period of four months. Success in integration was measured by objective and subjective measures of involvement and belonging. The sponsor contacts with newcomers were evaluated according to quality of contact. The hypothesis was that success in integration would correlate with contact quality. While the statistical correlation was not significant, the newcomers reported improved integration from the project and sponsors reported increased sensitivity to newcomers.
