Abstract
  • This thesis-project consists of a case study of the US Province regarding interculturality, the Dehonian charism, and initial formation. The purpose of it was to test to what extent interculturality is vital and essential to the Dehonian charism, and how it can be effectively implemented within Priests of the Sacred Heart initial formation in the United States. Because this project deals with experience, culture, and tradition, the author has decided to employ the method of practical theology of James and Evelyn Whitehead. The Whiteheads’ method encourages reflection upon these three elements of life, experience, culture, and tradition, and brings them into correlation to the moment of implementation. The result of this profound reflection and discernment emerges in a pastoral response. Consequently, the three elements, the experience of the members of the US Province, culture, and the tradition evolved in the Dehonian heritage, brought to correlation have emerged in some practical remarks and resolutions regarding initial formation as a pastoral response.
