Abstract

The need of a Japanese textbook on missiology is the thesis of this project. Current missionary activities in Japan are examined. A survey was conducted on the teaching of missiology in Japanese seminaries. Both surveys confirmed the need to establish a clearer understanding of evangelical missiology in Japan. David J Hesselgrave's textbook, Today's choices for tomorrow's mission, is evaluated as being the best choice among missiological texts for Japanese Christians. The question whether a dynamic equivalent translation is better than a formal translation is discussed. A summary of each chapter of the textbook and a Japanese translation conclude the project/dissertation.
