Abstract
  • The author researched the project over a seventeen-month study in a mainline Protestant congregation which had experienced decline for thirty years. Using Whitehead's theological method, a biblical-grounded basis, and contemporary-type small groups, the author tailed a variety of groups which provided new life and energy into the church. Each set of groups was measured using objective data and subjective evaluations. The membership, attendance and finances of the congregation dramatically improved during the project. The author concluded that carefully chosen and implemented small groups can help revitalize mainline Christianity.
