- Abstract
- This project developed a model for an initiation into membership of a United Methodist congregation in Texas. It consisted of eight weekly sessions designed to prepare persons for membership by teaching spiritual disciplines, United Methodist heritage and structure, and helping persons find their places in the local church through involvement in small groups and discovering one's spiritual gifts. The pastor and a team of lay persons led 'Steps to Belonging.' The evaluation showed the experience to be effective and that such a process should be normative for receiving all new members.
