Abstract
  • The author examines the opportunities and the challenges offered in the revised OCF (Order of Christian Funerals) for the ministries of the nonordained. He suggests specific contributions by lay ministers that enhance the effectiveness of the funeral rites. The thesis correlates the rich content of Christian tradition with contemporary cultural experience of death and bereavement. By the analysis of interviews with those engaged ministerially with the OCF, the author illustrates the motivation, the preparation, and the support required for engagement in this ministry. This project provides a very valuable tool for those engaged in the pastoral ministry of the church.
