- Abstract
- This project proposes an 'Understanding Series' as a pastoral care program to assist elders of the Presbyterian Church in Canada in their ministry to people with life-threatening illness. The project is characterized by its theological emphasis, its sensitivity to emotional and spiritual needs of sufferers and caregivers, and its relatively short timespan to maximize eldership participation. The project was field tested in five locations across Canada, gathering data by questionnaires and interviews. The 'Understanding Series' proved to be an effective tool in raising the knowledge and confidence levels of participants.
