Abstract

This project attempted to answer the question: Will sermons with brief slide presentations used to illustrate the theme help people who have been conditioned by television remember that theme? The researcher preached a series of thirteen sermons to a church in Toronto, Canada. The same sermon was preached to two congregations each Sunday. In one of the services the theme was illustrated by 35mm slides; in the alternate service, the same illustration was preached without visual support. The study found evidence that slide audio-visuals do help people improve their recall of the theme and scripture text of messages.
