Abstrakt

The paper presents an overview of the biblical teachings on marriage and divorce and an historical overview of the evolution of marriage in the Christian Church. It also covers contemporary expressions of marriage and divorce and denominational practices. The research used current books and articles on the subject and a survey. The author concludes that the Bible leaves the question of divorce open, and that the understanding and the interpretation of marriage in the Christian Church reflects the social situtation.
