Abstract

The project considers present-day search for meaning, inadequate help offered by psychologists and churches, and learning styles. The writings of May, Leech, Thayer and traditional contemplatives are explored in examining foundations for contemplative, psychological, effective, spiritually pastoral caring. Will, spirit, mystery, awareness, self-realization, love, prayer, impasse, dark night, pain, crisis intervention theory, need for spiritually discerning listeners, experiential contemplative and psychological resources, especially listening and change skills based on neuro-linguistic programming and psychosynthesis, and among the topics considered. A thirty-three session training program in crisis counseling, listening and prayerful discernment follows with selections from extensive handout notes and session plans.
