Abstrakt

The author's purpose is to demonstrate that change is imperative in the roles and relationships of district superintendents in the Evangelical Free Church of America. This has been accomplished by presenting an overview of the historical development of the superintendent's role. Various surveys of pastors and laypersons in the EFCA have also been conducted. Specific recommendations are then made. These are viewed from the perspective of various departments of the Free Church nationally, including its seminary. A second category involves recommended changes regarding the superintendent's role as it impacts the local church. The final category deals with the pastor in the EFCA and the district superintendent.
