Abstract
  • This D.Min thesis project considers the lack of a grief program in a Lutheran church in Southwest Pennsylvania and the harm it has caused its members. Using a pro-active research method, members were surveyed and interviewed, resulting in a grief program which includes education, grief groups and systematic follow-up. It was discovered during the project that evangelism was a surprising benefit of the grief process. It was concluded that while the behavioral sciences were helpful in understanding grief behavior, God and his word is the best instrument to address the heresy, despair, anger and depression of grief.
