Abstract
  • This project explains that African church growth is not as explosive as sometimes portrayed. The author examines the Diocese of Taita Taveta - geography, history and culture as well as the history of the Anglican Church and East African Revival. It presents church statistics from 1991-2000 and surveys three distinct groups of Anglicans: a- Anglicans (Waangilikana Damu), Irregular Anglicans (Waangilikana Jina) and Anglicans 'in diaspora'. Analysis indicates important pastoral factors to be addressed if growth is to be accelerated. Project presents theological reflection and pastoral response to the data. It suggests practical ways for reorienting Taita Taveta for accelerated growth.
