- Abstract
- This project is largely based upon the development and implementation of the church planter assessment process of the Suncoast Baptist Association, a fellowship of Southern Baptist churches located in the Pinellas and Southwest Pasco counties in southwest Florida. Can an efficiently organized and properly administered assessment model help select strong and competent church planters who in turn will train other church planters? The scriptures provide the foundation for assessment of others to whom the work of God is to be entrusted. We are commanded by the scriptures to search for reliable and qualified men who will teach the doctrines of the church and proclaim the Gospel. Church planting is just one of the many ways that the church does this. If the church is to be faithful to the command given by Paul, then we must search for reliable and qualified men to plant Christ's church. Analysis of this thesis is based upon biblical and theological research of the issue of calling and selection, exploration of the office and function of apostleship and its impact upon the selecting of church planters, review of the history of missions in the church, survey of contemporary influences in the area of assessment, and evaluation of various church planter assessment models used in North America.
