- Abstract
- A pluralistic parish presents Britain as a foreign mission field where the dominant culture contains plausibility structures that need to be challenged by the gospel. Traditional and defensive church models have failed, with the result that religion is privatized and domesticated, and most people are nominal or notional Christians. An examination of 'modern' Western culture and 'post-modernity' follows the work of Lesslie Newbigin and the Gospel and Culture Networks. The missionary congregation is found to be a viable model for multicultural churches. Ecumenical workshops are proposed, and programmes suggested, to help the churches re-think mission, and fulfill a missionary vocation.
