  • This project-thesis shows how a local church can become involved in establishing a ministry to the deaf in its community. It includes background information on the meaning of deafness and some of the characteristics of deaf persons and deaf society and a brief history of religious work with the deaf, particularly from the United Methodist viewpoint. Involvement of persons in the local church, especially securing the approval of the official bodies of the church and recruitment and training of persons to work with the deaf are important. It deals with problems of securing proper materials for Christian education, the expansion of the program beyond the local church, with ecumenical involvement, and concerns of deaf ministry in the Baltimore Annual Conference.
