- Abstract
- This thesis seeks to develop a program of evangelism in the Australian Anglican Diocese of Newcastle that takes into account both the strong Anglo-Catholic influence and the diverse theological understanding of conversion which forms the local ethos. There are three sections to the work: a comprehensive study of conversion from the biblical material through current history to the present; a consideration of the contextualization of the message of the good news within the Australian scene; and a field study questionnaire and in-depth interviews of the clergy within the diocese. As a result of this study it was found that the ethos of the clergy is more diverse than at first thought and that a broader definition of conversion needed to be considered. Models for evangelism were suggested, including outlines of a gospel presentation based on An Australian Prayer Book.
