Abstract
  • The purpose of this project is to train lay leaders--especially small group leaders--in basic hermeneutics. Three aspects of interpreting the Bible are particularly emphasized. The importance of gaining a bird's eye perspective of the Bible, laying out the hermeneutical principles for interpreting different genres of biblical literature, and encouraging lay leaders in the practices of spiritual disciplines. This course was taught to over one hundred participants at Christ Community Church (St. Charles, Illinois) in the spring of 2002. A comparison of pre- and post-course questionnaires indicate that a significant amount of Bible knowledge and hermeneutical understanding was gained.
