  • This paper explores the complex relationship between Egypt's Muslim and Christian communities since the 1970s. Muslim attitudes toward Christianity are analyzed as expressed in the literature of the period and in a field study conducted in 2011-2012. The theme of God's saving victory is identified as an aid in helping Muslims understand the Bible. Jesus' person and work are explained in terms that are more comprehensible to Muslims. Muslim attitudes toward Egypt's Christians are explored. Conclusions are drawn about how the two communities need to build trust and peaceful co-existence particularly in the post-Arab Spring environment in Egypt.
