Abstract
  • Christian discipleship for adults demands disciplined growth, while the church which highlights inclusiveness is often merely tolerant and casual. The intention of this program was that accountability to discipleship can be responsibly addressed within the pluralistic context of First Baptist Church, Dayton, Ohio, a downtown church. This program was implemented by developing an 'Adult Discipleship Plan' for the church; offering small discipleship bi-weekly groups for nine months, one overnight retreat, and a training event for church decision-makers; and relating worship themes. The conclusions resulting were that churches highlighting diversity can use their pluralism as a resource for encouraging discipleship growth.
