- Abstract
- This project was designed to enhance the self-esteem of the African-American single-parent mothers in the inner city at Bethel Friendship Baptist Church through spiritual direction. Participants completed a full one-day retreat which included lectures, participative exercises, spiritual disciplines such as formational prayer, and Lectio Divina. Pre and post tests were given to measure the results. The results of the data revealed increased movement in the participants' self-esteem. Further positive measurement evidenced a desire for Christian fellowship and a deeper relationship with God. The development of these two areas will impact self-esteem positively.
