- Abstract
- Christians and Muslims have lived together in Ethiopia for more than a thousand years. Yet they know little or nothing at all about the beliefs and practices of each other. Both claim to embody a universal message intended by God for the salvation of humankind. How do both diagnose the human situation? What is the saving work of God that both believe and proclaim would change the human situation and restore authentic humanity? What do they have in common? How do they differ? The purpose of this project has been to explore possible answers to these key questions and to do pastoral reflection on such answers. The thesis seeks to develop an appropriate understanding of the saving work of God in both religious communities and proposes dialogue as a way to share theological insights. It is hoped that in reflecting on such common themes both communities will be convinced and will have the courage to dialogue and understand better both their own faith and that of the other through sharing ideas, beliefs and religious stories.
