Abstrakt

This study examines how preaching impacts and informs the 21st-century church as it seeks to become more missional. It addresses this through a 250-member Presbyterian congregation in Mount Airy North Carolina, home to Andy Griffith and the fabled town of 'Mayberry.' Through a twelve week sermon series and a small 'focus group,' this project seeks to discern the ways in which preaching can shape and inform a congregation's theological 'self-understanding' as it desires to become a more missional church. It also examines the biblical, theological, contextual and homiletical foundations that look at the ramifications and possibilities of the post-Constantinian church.
