Abstract
  • This project developed, tested, and evaluated a parish-based program to improve skills for communication between spouses. The project is based in a local church community; it is focused on Scripture and on a sacramental and faith understanding of married life; it provides opportunity to practice communication skills through six meetings with 'homework' between meetings; it uses a marriage counselor to train and guide leader couples as a referral resource; it emphasizes peer couple-to-couple ministry based on lived experience in marriage. The six group sessions treat respect for relationship, confidentiality, and group process; needs of women and men; communication skills; stress and its response in men and womwen; sharing and coordinating values; and intimacy and spirituality. An appendix offers manuals for leaders and participants, evaluation forms, and bibliography.
