- Abstract
- In the last 20 years, prairie communities have witnessed many changes including economic, social, and psychological changes. The author has sought to describe those changes and then to understand how the community has responded to them. The author interviewed 13 rural residents from southern Manitoba from different age groups, sexes, point of entry into the rural world, and denominational bearings. Two different definitions of community emerged: community predicated upon geography, and community predicated upon choice. It is the author's conclusion that in order for rural faith communities to continue, both definitions of community need to be acknowledged and upheld.
