Abstract
  • This thesis tested a liturgy-based, premarital preparation program with five engaged couples and five clergy. This program is designed to help a couple understand the liturgical, theological and psychological dynamics of a wedding liturgy and Christian marriage. It is designed for clergy in the Presbyterian Church (USA) as a companion and study guide to 'Christian Marriage, Rite I-A Service for General Use,' Christian marriage: the worship of God. Supplemental liturgical resource 3. This marriage rite is the foundation for the program which enables couples to plan worship, understand Scripture readings and explore their vows as promises of a marriage covenant.
