  • Many Muslims of the former Soviet Union speak Russian but do not read the Bible in Russian because of cultural barriers. To overcome these barriers, the Eastern Russian version was produced with a contextual cover, alternate terms and names of biblical characters, and footnotes with a Muslim audience in mind. This dissertation examines the premises and processes of the production of this version anthropologically, linguistically and missiologically. It also evaluates the effectiveness of its contextualization through qualitative field research. The finding of this dissertation reveals that the contextualization is effective, especially for evangelism and discipleship of new believers.
