Abstract
  • The author combines study and congregational research to determine the impact of intentional doctrinal preaching on the understanding of that doctrine by adults. The author summarizes the results of study on the most effective methods of adult education, traditional styles of doctrinal preaching and their educational short-comings, and how insights from the andragogy model of education can help provide patterns for preaching styles that will enable proclamation to also serve an educational role. The author concludes with the results of congregational research in which the insights of his study are applied through sermons on the doctrine of baptism.
