Abstrait

The project is an evaluation of the congruity of numerical growth programs, informed by Church Growth Movement theories, promoted by the Department of Evangelism, Great Rivers Region, American Baptist Churches, USA, and the program expectations and practices of region pastors. Interviews and questionnaires from a sample group of region personnel, plus comparisons of region emphases and actual church programs provided the substance of the research. Region emphases were found to be inconsistent with the theory and practice of constituent pastors, who held a comprehensive view of growth including all phases of church life, versus a singular emphasis upon numerical growth.
