- Abstract
- This project proposes 13 new hymn texts to fill gaps in the corpus of hymnody in Lutheran Worship, which fails to support the lectionary used with the hymnal. Analysis of Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16 demonstrates that a variety of congregational song may be used in corporate worship, but this song must always be didactic in character. In the Reformation, congregational song was meant to serve a liturgical purpose. In an appendix the project compares hymn text scriptural allusions in Lutheran Worship with its lectionary.
