Abstract

This ministry research project developed training seminars for Woman's Missionary Union state consultants to educate them of lifetime stewardship for charitable gift planning for the Woman's Missionary Union Foundation. Chapter one introduces the study, while chapter two examined biblical and theological models for lifetime stewardship including the creation narrative from Gen 1:26-31, a study of the life of Barnabas, and the doctrine of creation and redemption. Chapter three conducts a historical review of the nature of philanthropy that covers: the nature of philanthropy, the development of philanthropy, philanthropy in America from the colonial period to the present, the history of philanthropy in the Southern Baptist Convention and philanthropic data from 1968-1998. Chapter four describes the selection of the WMU state consultants and details the content and information of the five training sessions. Chapter five evaluates the components of the ministry project and provides suggestions for future applications of the project.
