Abstract
  • The research addresses the subject of long term pastoral ministry by exploring the changing nature of the pastor/parish relationship during the second decade of ministry, examining the benefits and strengths of a second decade, identifying any difficulties incumbent within a second decade and suggesting potential resolutions to any identified hindrances. In-parish data was collected through a congregational survey, focus groups, and a data analysis and reflection group. Conclusions include the following: 1) long-term ministry possesses the potential for benefits not to be found in shorter tenures; 2) unique difficulties are also present in long tenure and 3) in many instances extremely long tenure may be counterproductive.
