Abstract

This study attempts to adapt a civilian church related counseling model in proposing a navy chapel counseling center. The information was obtained from questionnaires and on-sight visits to church related counseling centers, biblical and historical research, seventeen years as a navy chaplain, counseling in a local church, and in conversation with various chaplains and lawyers. From these investigations the following information is offered: (a) the organizational structure from which a chapel related counseling center can be adapted; (b) a brief history of pastoral counseling in the navy; (c) a biblical and historical perspective of counseling; and (d) a composite counseling center model that is conducive within the military structure.
