- Abstract
- This study investigates the relationship of midlife crisis to the ethical orientation of male ministers. It was hypothesized that a change in orientation would occur in midlife, precipitated by a crisis and that change would occur in three stages: rule-following/conforming, rule-dismissing/questioning and value-realizing/integrating. Two studies were performed with 62 male ministers. An attitude survey demonstrated no difference in the ethical orientation by age or denomination but self-reports of midlife crisis were significantly related to the questioning stage. Recommendations are made for: improvement of measurements for future study; guidelines for ministers entering midlife; and a workshop for ministers regarding the challenges of life change.
