Abstract
  • This project proposes new models for joint Lutheran-Episcopal eucharistic celebrations, based on ancient liturgical precedents and traditional practice and taking account of outstanding theological differences between Episcopalians and Lutherans. Mere physical presence of two ministers from different denominations standing at the same altar is not sufficient to convey a desired image of unity. Who presides, where one stands, what one wears are all powerful images with significance for worshipers.
