Abstract

This project deals with 1) a history of prepared worship formats; 2) an analysis of seven services; and 3) original compositions of the seven services (infant and adult baptism, holy communion, wedding ceremonies, funeral services, ordination of ministers and elders). The thesis is that prepared and printed worship formats have a long history in the Christian Church and should be used in Presbyterian churches. The author researches the history of printed worship materials as well as services found in seven worship manuals from 1644 to 1972. He concludes that prepared worship formats should be used more often by pastors and congregations in Presbyterian churches.
