  • The major challenge addressed in this thesis is how to develop a new self concept and an adequate staff in a large church which has been operating with the self concept of a small church. The theological principle will suggest that the congregation needs to move away from viewing itself as the family of God or a fellowship, to an understanding of itself as the people of God. Research will explain the difference between: the concept of a neighborhood church and that of a metropolitan church; new developing neighborhoods and stable communities; and small churches and large churches. Involvement of the local congregation, session, various commitees of the church as well as interviews with community leaders will be included in the process of helping the church understand its history, its present reality, and develop a vision for the future.
