Abstract
  • The current contemporary mainline Protestant denominational decline is at least partly due to inadequate training in pastoral spiritual leadership. The author explored and evaluated a diverse sample of theological schools to help assess current training and to give clues for an improved model of spiritual leadership education for the ministry. A dialectic tension between the pedagogic of formal academic training and spiritual or character formation may require integration of a new ecclesiological understanding of leadership training impacted by pneumatology and missiology.
