Abstract

This study demonstrates aspects of the role of the funeral director showing that theological dimensions in ministering to the bereaved are incorporated. The assessment of ministry to the bereaved from the initial viewal of the deceased to the committal and final disposition and post-funeral care is a possibility for the professional funeral director. By reaffirming God's love and acceptance and by offering hope to the bereaved as they complete the closure to the experience, death brings religious dimensions to the care and caring process in the work with mourners and facilitates communitas, comfort and solace to the bereaved.
