Abstract
  • This project proposes to provide the LCMS with a course by which lay ministers will become preachers. The paper is structured around an introduction, five chapters, and an appendix. The project involved teaching a brief history of lay preaching, an operative theology of preaching, communication skills from a theological and cultural perspective, and the Historical-Grammatical Method of biblical interpretation along with a sample of current, compatible hermeneutical trends. The fifth chapter explains: 1) the research and development that went into the formation of the pilot/focus group; and, 2) the evaluation of the course and its effects upon the pilot group by the focus group.
