Abstract
  • Epworth United Methodist Church experienced a lack of energy and excitement about a proposed building project. The writer shifted the members' attention away from linear thinking, which focuses on symptoms as if they are a description of the whole problem, toward a systemic view, which seeks optimum congruence between all components of the organizational system. In this project, a vision formation process created leverage for systemic assessment and energy channeling. The most important conclusion reached is that energy is a fruit of congregational synergy or systemic congruence.
