Abstract
  • The purpose of this pastoral care project is to hear the voices of the LGBTQ community regarding their needs of pastoral care for the challenges of “coming-out,” rejection and depression, and the celebrations of marriage and Pride. Seven clergypersons were interviewed, and nine clergypersons completed the clergy survey. Two of the nine surveys were from Spanish-speaking pastors and these surveys were translated into English. Forty-four LGBTQ lay people completed the lay survey. One of the lay surveys was from a Spanish-speaking individual and it was translated into English. A word analysis was performed on the interviews and the surveys to identify frequently used terms related to strategies of pastoral care. The report combines information on the challenges and celebrations and strategies to fulfill the pastoral care needs as indicated by the survey and interview participants. The project also supplies wedding and referral resources.
