  • This project added a spiritual formation component to the transforming system of Manli-hyun Church. Sixteen lay leaders participated in a four-week training course in spiritual development, followed by four weeks of trial ministry. This systematic emphasis on spiritual growth was rooted in traditions of spiritual direction, biblical mandates to seek God and exercise the spirit, and the affirmation that Christians live as members of gathering, witnessing communities. Results of pre- and post-tests administered to the experimental and control groups demonstrated that attitudes and behavior among participants in the spirituality training were changed significantly in the areas of personal spiritual growth, interpersonal relations, congregational vitality, and evangelistic outreach.
