  • Backwards prophet: a shift in the leadership paradigm to impact the health of the community in the twenty-first century
Abstract
  • Using the leadership framework of the 'backwards prophet' and the theological lens of a contextual theology of health, the author sought to determine if a leadership paradigm could be designed for the lay leadership of Metropolitan United Methodist Church that would enable the leadership to impact the health of the community. She engaged the leadership in a six-month Bible study designed to engage the Old Testament prophets as a foundation for the work of prophets today. The study confirmed that lay leaders neither understand nor claim their role as prophets in their role as leaders.
