Abstract
  • This project is an attempt to take a close look at the use of administrative procedures within the Black Baptist church. The purpose was to review the correlation between churches that employ administrative procedures in their daily operation and those that do not in regard to the overall effect this has had on the church. Fourteen (14) Black Baptist churches participated in this research. They provided information on various aspects of the administrative process that was utilized to transact business in their church (e.g., membership growth, membership attendance at worship service, financial giving, and membership retention over the past five years). Information was also obtained pertaining to the organizational structure of the church and how this structure functioned administratively. In addition to the questionnaire, there was also an interview with the pastors to provide them with an opportunity to articulate their management philosophy and approach to administration. After this information was analyzed, a number of recommendations were provided to improve the administrative process.
